Panel 1

Roy, Belkar and Haley sitting in director chair's facing the readers.
Roy (tossing out the script): Well since SOMEBODY took away our monster, we find ourselves with no plot for today's strip.
Belkar: How exactly is that different from all the other strips?
Haley: Shush.

Panel 2

Roy: Se we've decided to just phone this one in by answering mail from you, our readers.
Belkar: Again, how exact[cut off]
Haley (interrupting): SHHHH!

Panel 3

Roy: Our first letter comes from Henry, writing from Atlanta, GA. Henry asks:
The letter reads:
If Xykon were to mistakenly put a treasure of immense value before you, who on the team would grab at the chance of early retirement from adventuring?

Panel 4

Roy: Haley
Belkar: Haley
Haley: Haley
Haley: Tee hee!

Panel 5

Roy: Well, OK, that was easy. Our next letter is from Richie in New Brunswick, NJ. Richie writes:
Belkar: Who the hell took the time to make giant cards with letters on them?
The letter reads:
I was wondering what exactly was the best use for a doily.'

Panel 6

Roy: Well, Richie, we asked Vaarsuvius to look into this for us, and here is what we learned.
Belkar: Oh, this ought to be good.

Panel 7

Cut to Vaarsuvius in the kitchen
Vaarsuvius: Thank you, Sir Greenhilt. My preliminary inquest into the doily conundrum revealed that they were best used as a decorative lay on a dessert pedestal, under a cake or perhaps a pie.

Panel 8

Vaarsuvius (from the previous panel): However, sensing more afoot, I delved deeper into the intricacies of the patterns formed by the typical doily.

Panel 9

Close-up of a doily surrounded by mystical energy.
Vaarsuvius (inset): And lo, I discovered that the weaving of white paper formed a matrix that resonated with arcane power. That within the mystical sigil that is a doily, there lay a path taken by few!

Panel 10

Vaarsuvius uses the doily as a spell focus.
Vaarsuvius: For the humble doily is indeed the gateway to ULTIMATE COSMIC POWER!!

Panel 11

Vaarsuvius stands in a now damaged kitchen
Vaarsuvius: Back to you, Sir Greenhilt.

Panel 12

Roy: The kitchen...
Belkar: Here's an idea: Let's never do this again.
Haley: Yeah, like we're never gonna need a filler again. Dream on, shorty.

Trivia Edit

  • In the first panel, Roy throws away the script that the Beholder was holding in the last comic.
  • Haley was right; they revisit this filler in #121, The Return of Mail Call, and #259, Son of Mail Call.
