Panel 2, Page 2

This panel is a circle inset in the lower right corner of the previous panel, showing Haley and Durkon by the parapets of the Azure City wall.
Haley: So, do you want to be the one to tell him that he probably won't get any XP from any of them?
Durkon: Let's draw straws.

D&D Context[]

  • Defeating creatures or encounters which are too low of a Challenge Rating (CR) does not earn any experience points (XP) for a high-level character. The CR of a hobgoblin is 1/2, meaning it would take two of them to make even a moderate challenge to a 1st level character. Belkar is approximately 13-14th level at this time. The number of hobgoblins should modify the CR, but even the Dungeon Master's Guide points out that barring exceptional circumstances, a character should not gain XP from an encounter with opponents that are individually eight or more levels below them, regardless of number.

Trivia[]

  • First time Belkar describes himself as a "sexy shoeless god of war". He will refer to himself again thusly in #610.
