Cast[]
- The Order of the Stick
- Two Goblins (off-panel)
Transcript[]
- Panel 1
The party walks down a passageway. Noises are coming from Durkon's armor, "clank! clank! clank! clank!"
- Panel 2
Durkon's armor continues to make a racket, "clank! clank! clank! clank!"
Goblin #1 (off-panel): Hey, fellow goblin, do you hear that sound?
Goblin #2 (off-panel): You mean that loud clanking?
- Panel 3
Durkon's armor is very noisy, "clank! clank! clank! clank!"
Goblin #1 (off-panel): Yes, I refer to the loud repetitive clanking. I believe perhaps a group of adventurers is approaching.
Goblin #2 (off-panel): Well, then, we had better flee, thus denying them valuable XP for defeating us.
- Panel 4
Durkon's armor goes "clank! clank! clank! clank!"
Goblin #1 (off-panel): A capital idea. Do not forget to take our precious loot with us.
Goblin #2 (off-panel): Yes, we would not want those adventurers, which we can clearly hear approaching, to recoup the exenses[sic] incurred by this expedition.
- Panel 5
Durkon's armor goes "clank! clank!"
Goblin #1 (off-panel): What about this powerful magical object, which we are incapable of using but would be quite effective in their hands if they were to defeat us?
Goblin #2 (off-panel): Better destroy it, then.
They destroy the powerful magical object, "SNAP!"
- Panel 6
Durkon's armor goes "clank! clank! clank!"
Goblin #1 (off-panel): And why not arm this deadly but well-hidden booby trap, goblin friend.
Goblin #2 (off-panel): Done! Now let us flee.
Roy: Damn it, Durkon!
- Panel 7
Roy: That's the fifth group in a row to do that!
Roy: Is there any way you could possibly alert more monsters to our presence? Maybe we could get a big red neon sign saying "The heroes are here!" Geez!!
- Panel 8
Elan holds a neon sign which reads, "The heroes are here!!"
Elan: See? I told you it was a good idea!
Durkon's armor continues to rattle, "clank! clank! clank! clank!"
D&D Context[]
- Heavy armor, like the plate armor that Durkon is wearing, causes the wearer to take a penalty to their Move Silently skill checks.
Trivia[]
- Do You Hear What I Hear? (the comic's title) was the name of a Christmas song created by Noel Regney and Gloria Shayne Baker in 1962.
- The Goblins heard off-panel speak in a surprisingly similiar manner to Vaarsuvius.
